Support the Troups

Since Obama has taken office, the war in Iraq seems to be settling down while the (original) war in Afghanistan is becoming our #1 issue again. Obama made a speech the other night explaining why we cannot just walk away from this war, we need to send in more troups, 30,000 to be exact. These 30,000 extra troups will still be less than the 160,000 that were in Iraq, and some republicans are wondering if that is enough. One reason I’m so concerned about this topic is because I have a few friends over there. It really bothers me that we’ve let this war get so out of hand that we lost focus on our first objective. This was has been riding out for over 8 years, with more than 800 Americans dead and billions of taxpayer dollars spent.

My question is, why do we seem to be “helping” them when they were terrorizing our country? I’ll admit, I’m still in question about parts of this war and correct me if I’m wrong, but from my understanding, they came into our country and killed thousands of Americans and it seems as if our main goal is to help them find a better way of running their country/government. Obama said his strategy is to “deny al Qaeda a safe haven, reverse Taliban’s momentum and deny it the ability to overthrow the government, and strengthen the capacity of Afghanistan’s security forces and government so that they can take lead responsibility for their future” and to “disrupt, dismantle, and defeat al Qaeda”. I want to know how this is going to make them stop terrorizing? There seem to be some very intelligent yet crazy people over there, people willing to end their lives along with ours just to please their country… How are we stopping those people? But the better question is, can they be stopped? In 2010 these 30,000 troups will be deployed for 18 months dragging this war on for another year and a half.

Obama, I’m putting my faith in you that you know what you’re doing and in the long haul you’re saving our country from being threatened or terrorized. I do agree it’s a better approach than terrorizing their country back, we’re at least showing some good faith here, I just hope this is the right approach.
